Klopp admits it was possible for Van Dijk-Gomez to start the season. Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp has spoken about the chances of starting at centre-back Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez, who are out for months with injuries.

Van Dijk played 70 minutes against Athletic Bilbao, while Gomez played an hour against Osasuna in the final two pre-season friendly against Liverpool. Play in a row within two days. Klopp feels the duo are ready for the opening game of the 2021-22 Premier League season at Norwich City’s home Carrow Road, but no starting eleven has been decided yet.

“I think so. It seems possible (Ready for real), but with these things. We have nothing to rush.”

“We just have to decide who will start, things like this, I think if they are ready to play the full 90 minutes of the game then they are ready to start. But if we had to remove them before then It was for no reason at all. (To start) because the centre-back position isn’t really where you want to change during the game. So we’ll have to wait and see.”

“Both of them look pretty good. The hard season is about to begin. We will see how we make that decision,” Klopp told Liverpool’s website.
