England boss Gareth Southgate has hailed the performance of young midfielder Cobbie Menu, who has significantly improved the team’s football game.
The 19-year-old star impressed for Manchester United last season and was named in the squad for Euro 2024. Where after initially starting off as a substitute he has since broken into the side and become a key player. Particularly in the 2-1 semi-final win over the Netherlands, which earned him plaudits UFABET
Southgate said of Menu: “I thought his overall performances were excellent. Especially considering his age. We haven’t had players like him until now.”
“It makes a huge difference when your midfielders can handle the ball under pressure and turn it around so easily. It looks easy when he does it but it’s not easy at all.”
“But I thought he and Phil did well in difficult situations, as did Jude (Bellingham)… Our movement was really good, that caused problems for the opposition and made them adapt without the ball.”
Mainoo was also a key part of the side that won the FA Youth Cup against Nottingham Forest in May 2022. And was soon handed regular opportunities to impress by training alongside United’s first team.
Mainoo is a midfielder who made waves within United’s academy sides. The youngster – born in Stockport – originally played for Cheadle & Gatley’s juniors. Before being picked up by the Red Devils at the age of nine.
